German NGO distributes boats to Veloor fishermen

Juergen Wahn Stiftung (JWS), a German based non-governmental organization recently donated another consignment of five fishing boats to families affected by tsunami in Nilaveli and Veloor villages in the Kuchchaveli division, north of Trincomalee.

Each boat costs about three hundred thousand rupees, JWS official said.

Ten beneficiaries share five fishing boats with outboard motors- each for two- for their livelihood, he said.

Local representatives of the JWS, Mr.S.Kumaraguru, Mr.Suntharamoorthy, Mr.C.Mathialagan (Nilaveli Tamil Maha Vidiyalayam Principal) and Mr.K.Ratnakumar (Rural Development Society) participated in the handing over event.

JWS has been providing assistance for the rehabilitation of tsunami affected farmers and fishermen of the villages since the tsunami disaster.

JWS is also funding the reconstruction of tsunami destroyed pre-school building in Veloor village.
