Huitán

The village sign at the entrance to Huitán.	In 1992, The Juergen Wahn Foundation financed a Day Care Centre in the Mayan mountain village of Huitan in Guatemala. The project was undertaken in partnership with another german non-profit organization, "Kindernothilfe e.V." In April 2003, board members from the JWF visited the Huitan Day Care Centre. We were welcomed at the village entrance and taken to the Centre by pick up truck. It was warm welcome. We are treated as honored guests, and the entire village came out to be part of this special event.
On our arrival girls wearing the colorful traditional Mayan outfits welcomed us.	A sign on the wall welcomes President, Klaus Schubert, and everyone from JWF to "CASA FELIZ", (Happy House). Having visited the Centre several times in the past, "Senor" Klaus is considered a friend of the village. We sat in on a class at the Centre where we were able to see for ourselves the wonderful work being done here. The dedicated teachers and staff are providing the children with previously unavailable educational opportunities.
