Three members of the Foundation Juergen Wahn
 visited Sri Lanka

Three members of the Foundation Juergen Wahn e.V. - shown in the picture left - visited Sri Lanka from March  03 to March 09, 2005. There they hade contact to the people of Veloor und Batticaloa.

Foundation Juergen Wahn officials visited the village soon after the disaster and took steps to rehabilitate the village. They supplied household implements to victim families, agricultural implements including tractors to farmers and push bicycles to students.

A two-storied building for the pre-school is under construction with the funds provided by Foundation Juergen Wahn.

German NGO distributes boats to Veloor fishermen
 

German Foundation donates water pumps

Juergen Wahn Stiftung a German Foundation which has been funding the Veloor Development Project since the village was destroyed by tsunami disaster, Sunday donated water pumps with accessories worth about 2 million rupees to 41 farmers to restart their cultivation.

Mr.K.Ratnakumar, President of the Nilaveli-Veloor Rural Development Society, and Mr.C.Suntharamoorthy and Mr.S.Kumaraguru on behalf of the Juergen Wahn Stiftung handed over the water pumps to the beneficiaries.

41 farmers received water pumps under the Veloor Development Project, funded by the German Foundation, Juergen Wahn Stiftung e.V.

Veloor is one of the twenty Grama Niladhari (Village Level Officer) divisions in the Kuchchaveli division in the Trincomalee district. All the 446 families in the village were displaced in the last year tsunami. Eighty-eight men, women and children died in the disaster. Of the displaced 1796 persons of these families 670 were children, according to local government officials.

Majority of the houses and the only pre-school building were razed to the ground by deadly waves.
